Terrorist linked to attack on CRPF troops killed in ongoing Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar: A terrorist related to a recent attack on CRPF personnel was shot dead in an encounter in Srinagar on Sunday, according to police, who added that another was still being hunted down. The terror group to which the two terrorists belong has yet to be identified by the authorities.

The terrorist slain in the encounter, according to Inspector General of Kashmir Police Vijay Kumar, was also involved in a previous terror strike on Central Forces in the valley. “One of the terrorists involved in a recent terror attack on CRPF personnel, killed in Srinagar encounter, and other is trapped,” IGP Vijay Kumar said. The encounter, which began on Sunday morning, is still underway.

Against Saturday, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) leader was murdered in an encounter in the Anantnag region of Jammu and Kashmir. He was engaged in multiple assaults on civilians, including non-locals and security officials. He was identified as Nisar Ahmad Dar, a top-ranking leader in the LeT, according to authorities.

According to a J&K police spokeswoman, security personnel conducted a combined search operation in the Sirhama region after receiving information about the presence of terrorists. “As the search party proceeded towards the spot, the hiding terrorist fired indiscriminately upon the search party, which retaliated, leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, the hiding terrorist was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” the spokesperson said

The Kashmir police told the media on Saturday that 45 terrorists had been slain in Jammu and Kashmir since January.
