Zee Studios produced the Kashmir Files. The news of the migration of Kashmiri Pandits always hits the controversy, and it works like ghee in the fire. The film is based on the story of the exodus of Kashmiri pundits from the valley.
People turn crazy
However, the moment it was released, people became eager to watch this movie anyway. That is why The Kashmir Files is doing well at the box office and have become a super hit movie. Along with this, the BJP-ruled states have decided to make the Kashmir Files tax-free so that people can watch them without putting much stress on their pockets.
The movie is not free from controversy. It is said to be propaganda to give a bad name to Muslims through this movie. The aim behind such a movie is to bring like-minded people on one platform and bifurcate the two religions of the country.
It was planned to release the movie all over the world on Republic Day this year. But could not possible because of the spread of the Omicron variant at that time, so it was delayed for almost two months.
Release and box office success
The movie has been doing bumper business. It was released on more than 630 screens across the nation on March 11, 2022. Gradually, people are turning out in huge numbers to watch the movie, which is based on a contentious issue. The first three days’ earnings of Kashmir Files has mounted to Rs 27.15 crore. The film has got a good response in the overseas markets as well.
The film is not free from controversy. It has portrayed Muslims as the slayers of Kashmiri pundits in the valley. It is a one sided story. It seems the director of the film had forgotten that there are two faces to a coin. Therefore, public interest litigation was filed by a man in Uttar Pradesh, and he appealed to not release the film. Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court dismissed this plea on technical grounds.
The opposition to the Kashmir Files is firing up. A widow of an Indian Armed Forces squadron leader also files a lawsuit. Although she lost her husband in the Kashmir uprising. But the widow, in her lawsuit, cleared the air by stating that the film is not based on truth.
Reaction by all sections
The film has gotten mixed reactions. The ruling and opposition parties are trying to describe the story of the film right or wrong. People from all walks of life are giving their views on the Kashmir Files. The ruling party, the BJP, is endeavouring to portray the story of the film as absolutely right. On the other hand, the opposition is attempting to portray it as a factious story. It is far from the truth.
PM Narendra Modi has appreciated Vivek Agnihotri’s effort in making such a movie. He emphasised the importance of making films like this so that people can understand the past.
The director of the films wanted to expose Muslims as Nazis and Hindus as Jews. It is needless to add that the film is fiction, like other movies, and is not based on truth. Common people should strain to avoid such types of controversy and enjoy the movie. There is no need to overreact. Previously, such films were released, and after some uproar, everything calmed down.
The director likes to use the contentious issues to gain popularity for the film. So a film is similar to a fictional story. As is the case with the Kashmir Files.
