Prayagraj: A heavy rush of devotees at eminent Lord Shiva temples across the country can be seen today in view of the first Monday of the ongoing Shravan month on July 18. Security has been beefed up around the temples so that no untoward incidents can take place.
Additional police personnel, including women cops, have been deployed in the surrounding temples. At Prayagraj, CCTV cameras have been installed in different locations, and police have made arrangements for barricading to control the crowd easily. Besides this, separate entry and exit routes were created to avoid huge gatherings in one place.
A huge number of Kanwariya devotees on Sunday arrived at Dashashwamedh ghat to collect holy Ganga water and started their journey to Kashi Vishwanath to offer Jalabhishek on Monday. The police have taken several safety routes for the kanwariyas during their visit to Varanasi.
The Kanwar yatra has got underway after a gap of two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kanwariyas’ faces were filled with excitement and enthusiasm as they prepared to offer Jalabhishek at prominent Lord Shiva temples all over the country.
A senior cop said, “Police authorities have made an elaborate arrangement of security at Dashashwamedh ghat, Sangam and Daraganj-Handia route.” Astrologer Dr Amitabh Gour says, “Shravan somvar is dedicated to Lord Shiva and devotees observe fast on this day and perform rudrabhishek on Mondays, which are considered to be highly auspicious.”
