To keep its promise, AAP govt announces 300 units of free electricity in Punjab from July 1

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made several promises prior to the Punjab elections, and now that it has won a landslide victory in the state assembly, the AAP government is ready to gradually fulfil those promises. On the completion of one month of the Bhagwant Mann Cabinet. AAP has announced that it will give 300 units of free electricity from July 1.

During a press conference in Jalandhar on Thursday, Mann said, “On the 16th we will give great news to the people of Punjab.”

Mann meets Kejriwal

As per the report by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources, Mann met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal a couple of days ago to discuss the scheme of providing free electricity in Punjab for up to 300 units.

Delivering free power to every house up to 300 units was one of the most important promises made by AAP in its campaign in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

The newly elected CM of Punjab launched a doorstep ration delivery programme in the state last month. It was another vital agenda item during the polls.

No need to wait five years

On the eve of the completion of one month in office, the party’s spokesperson tweeted: “Now you won’t have to wait for five years to see promises being fulfilled.” Tomorrow, there will be a major announcement for the people of Punjab.

Currently, Punjab has been providing free power to the agriculture sector. Apart from this, it provides 200 units of free electricity to Scheduled Castes, backward castes, and those who come under the category of below poverty line (BPL) households.

The Mann government has already taken decisions on different issues, including the setting up of an anti-gangster task force, the opening of a sub-office of the CMO in every district, door-step delivery of rations to the poor, the installation of CCTV cameras at sand mining sites, no increase in private school fees for the current session and the regularisation of services of 35,000 Group C and D government employees.

In his first cabinet meeting, the decision was taken to give 25,000 government jobs to youth in the state. Among these, 10,000 jobs will be provided in the Punjab police for various positions.

People are looking forward to the AAP government’s first budget because it will include financial allocations for critical projects.
