Tourist family attacked with swords and knives in a resort in Goa, 4 arrested; Video goes viral

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant described the incident as "shocking and intolerable", and assured "stern action" against the perpetrators.

New Delhi: A family from Delhi had gone on a trip to Goa earlier this month. The family has alleged that they were attacked with swords and knives by the local people in Anjuna area. A family member was seriously injured in this attack.

According to the police, 47-year-old Ashwini Kumar Chandrani, a resident of Delhi, was attacked with kicks, belts, baseball bats and knives at around 5 pm on March 5 in Anjuna area. He and his family members were injured in the attack. The family has lodged a complaint against a youth named Roshan and other unknown people.

Also, the police said that during the investigation, they found that the vital parts of the body were attacked with knives and other weapons, hence section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) has been imposed.

With the help of CCTV footage, the police have identified the accused in the attack. Police arrested Roshan, Nyron Reginaldo Dias and Kashinath Vishwar Agarkadeke, associates of Royston Reginaldo Dias. All of them are residents of Anjuna area. Police said they are looking for others involved in the attack.

Mapusa sub-divisional police officer Jivba Dalvi said that the rest of the accused involved in the scuffle would also be arrested.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant described the incident as “shocking and intolerable”, and assured “stern action” against the perpetrators.

He tweeted on Sunday, “The violent incident in Anjuna is shocking and intolerable. I have directed the police to take strictest action against the culprits. Such anti-social elements are a threat to the peace and security of the people in the state.” , And it will be dealt with strictly.”

Meanwhile, the investigation of the case has been handed over to another officer.
