Raipur: In a tragic incident, five people have killed due to alleged leakage of poisonous gas in a well in Janjgir-Champa district of Chhattisgarh today. Police officials informed that the incident took place in Kikirda village under Birra police station area of the district. On the matter, SDOP Yadumani Sidar said that this incident happened today at 7:30 am. He told that in order to save one person, 4 people went inside the well one by one. Then due to gas leakage in the well, they suffocated, due to which all of them died.

It is reported that a person named Ramchandra Jaiswal was the first to go into the well. He had gone inside the well to take out the wood that had fallen in it, but at the same time gas started leaking. Neighbor Ramesh Patel, who was present at the spot, went inside to save him. When both of them did not come out, two sons of Ramesh Patel also went inside the well and after that another neighbor named Tikeshwar Chandra went into the well to save them all, but no one could come out. All five people who went inside the well died due to gas leakage.

Inspector General of Police of Bilaspur area, Sanjeev Shukla said that according to the villagers, a piece of wood had fallen into the well of Ramchandra Jaiswal, to take it out he went into the well but could not get out. IG Shukla said that the family sought help from the neighboring Patel and Chandra families, after which Ramesh Patel, Jitendra Patel, Rajendra Patel and Tikeshwar Chandra also went into the well but they too could not come out.

As per the preliminary information, Jaiswal entered the well to take out a wooden strip after it fell into it. When he fainted, his family member shouted for help following which three others from the Patel family entered the water body, he said.

When all four did not come out, Chandra entered the well but he also became unconscious, following which locals alerted police, the official said. A team of State Disaster Response Forces (SDRF) has been roped in to fish out the bodies from the well, Shukla said.
