Tragedy Strikes Haryana as 19 Lose Lives to Suspected Poisonous Liquor; Seven Arrested

A devastating incident unfolded in Haryana, claiming the lives of at least 19 individuals who consumed suspected poisonous liquor. The affected villages, including Mandebari, Panjeto Ka Majra, Phoosgarh, and Saran villages in Yamunanagar, and neighboring Ambala district, have witnessed a wave of grief and shock.

In response to the tragedy, villagers are demanding accountability from liquor dealers, while police have taken action by arresting seven individuals, including the sons of a Congress leader and a Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader.

The opposition parties have criticized the Manohar Lal Khattar government, accusing it of neglecting the lessons from previous incidents of a similar nature.

Ravinder, whose 70-year-old father is among the victims, shared, “My father died of alcohol poisoning last night. He was addicted to alcohol, but he usually only consumed a small amount. He had been drinking with friends who had also died from alcohol poisoning in the past.”

The police have made seven arrests so far and are conducting further raids to apprehend additional suspects. However, fear has gripped the villagers, preventing them from openly speaking out against the liquor dealers.

“I am afraid. Our lives could be in danger if we raise our voices,” expressed one villager.

In a related development, two migrant laborers from Uttar Pradesh lost their lives in Ambala after consuming suspected spurious liquor manufactured illegally in the district. Ambala police seized 200 crates of counterfeit liquor produced in an abandoned factory and supplied to the arrested suspects in Yamunanagar. The police also confiscated 14 empty drums and materials used in the production of illicit liquor.

The investigation is ongoing, with police delving into the manufacturing timeline of the accused and seeking information on accomplices. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Yamunanagar Police to conduct a thorough probe into the case.
