According to police reports, they received an early morning PCR call regarding an accident involving a policeman.
New Delhi: In a tragic incident in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area, a 54-year-old Delhi Police Sub-Inspector lost his life after being struck by a speeding car. The incident also resulted in injuries to the driver of a pick-up vehicle.
According to police reports, the incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when SI Gangasaran and ASI Ajay Tomar were on patrolling duty in a Gypsy vehicle, with ASI Tomar at the wheel. At approximately 5:30 am, they stopped a Bolero pick-up for a routine check. SI Gangasaran and Ramgopal, the truck driver, both exited their vehicles.
While they were standing on the road, a Honda Amaze car approached at high speed from the Ghaziabad side, heading towards Sarai Kale Khan. The car struck SI Gangasaran and Ramgopal from behind. Despite being rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for treatment, SI Gangasaran tragically passed away.
SI Gangasaran is survived by his wife and five children, according to police. Ramgopal, who resides in Outer Delhi’s Nangloi, was transported to Safdarjung Hospital for further medical attention.
A case has been registered under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others), and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. The crime scene has been examined by a crime team.
