Trailer of Ranveer Singh’s World cup biopic out, ’83’ gives fans ‘goosebumps and tears’

Mumbai: The trailer for Ranveer Singh-starrer sports drama ‘83′, has finally been released, where the 36-year-old is playing as former cricketer Kapil Dev, telling the story of how the Indian cricket team, “a team that no one believed in”, brought the World Cup home in 1983 after beating the the reigning champions, West Indies.

The film follows how the Indian cricket team, ‘a team that no one believed in’, went from being the underdogs to winning their first-ever World Cup in 1983 by beating 

The over-three-minute long video begins with the Indian team faltering on the field. Ranveer as Kapil declares at the press conference that they are ‘here to win’.

Seasoned actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is playing the then-manager of the team PR Man Singh, tells Kapil, “35 saal pehle hum log aazaadi jeete, magar izzat jeetna baaki hai, kaptaan (We won independence 35 years ago but we are yet to win respect, captain).”

The second half of the trailer, showcases the Indian team makes a stunning comeback, with Kapil hitting one six after another, smashing dressing room windows, glasses and windscreens of cars. Whereas, actress Deepika Padukone, who is essaying his wife, Romi Dev, supports Kapil off the field.

Other than its emotional side, 83 trailer also runs through several lighter moments. Harrdy Sandhu as Madan LalAmmy Virk as Balvinder Singh Sandhu, Saqib Saleem as Mohinder Amarnath and others also feature in the nearly four-minute video.

For the unversed, helmed by Kabir Khan ’83’ traces India’s historic victory at the 1983 cricket World Cup, where Ranveer will be seen playing the role of former Indian skipper Kapil Dev and actress Deepika Padukone in his wife Romi’s role. The movie will be out in theatres on December 24 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International and Nagarjuna Akkineni’s Annapurna Studios are joining hands with Reliance Entertainment to present the Tamil and Telugu versions, respectively. Prithviraj’s production and Kichcha Sudeepa’s Shalini Arts are set to present the film in Malayalam and Kannada versions.

This will be the first time Ranveer and Deepika will be seen featuring together in a film after their wedding. The star couple have previously worked in films like ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’.
