Tripura assembly elections: Mahendra Singh appointed as in-charge of BJP

BJP on Sunday (October 16) has appointed Dr. Mahendra Singh as in-charge for Tripura Assembly elections. The party's national president JP Nadda has appointed Uttar Pradesh MLC Dr. Mahendra Singh as election in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sameer Oraon as co-in-charge.

Tripura: In view of the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura, BJP has made a big change. BJP on Sunday (October 16) has appointed Dr. Mahendra Singh as in-charge for Tripura Assembly elections. On behalf of the BJP, it was said that for the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura, the party’s national president JP Nadda has appointed Uttar Pradesh MLC Dr. Mahendra Singh as election in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sameer Oraon as co-in-charge.

Elections to the Tripura Legislative Assembly are to be held by March next year. Even before that, the politics in the state has intensified. On one hand, where BJP has appointed new in-charge and co-in-charge, on the same day, one MLA of BJP-IPFT government had resigned from his post.

IPFT MLA from Raima Valley constituency Dhananjay Tripura submitted his resignation to the Speaker and announced to join Pradyot Kishor Debbarman’s party TIPRA Motha. He is the second IPFT MLA to quit the party in the last one year. A year ago, IPFT MLA Brishketu Debbarma also left the party and joined TIPRA Motha.

In the 2018 assembly elections, out of 60 assembly seats in the state, the BJP won 36 seats while the IPFT won eight. With the resignation of Dhananjay Tripura, the number of IPFT MLAs came down to six. A few days ago, BJP MLA Barba Mohan Tripura had also resigned from the assembly and joined TIPRA Motha. After which the number of BJP MLAs increased to 35. The BJP-IPFT government currently has 41 MLAs.
