Inaugurating the three-day Diwali festival at Tripureswari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peeths in Udaipur, Gomati district, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha marked the commencement of the celebrations on November 12. Enhanced security measures have been implemented in and around the 700-year-old temple to ensure the peaceful observance of the festival of lights.
State Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, and Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma joined the inaugural function. The temple opened at 4:30 am on Sunday, initiating the Chandi path, a traditional ritual. Chandan Chakraborty, the head priest, shared that the Tripura Sundari deity would be adorned with special ornaments, with the puja starting at 10 am as usual. An additional special puja was scheduled for the evening.
While the temple remained open throughout Sunday night, it would close at 11:00 pm on Monday and Tuesday. The surrounding fair was set to continue as scheduled, with arrangements in place for a vibrant Diwali celebration. This year, puja rituals were planned to be live-streamed on giant screens for devotees on both Sunday and Monday.
Abhishek Debroy, the local MLA and chairman of the fair committee, expressed hopes for record-breaking attendance. The police took measures to enforce the use of only green crackers during the festivities, following guidance from the Tripura State Pollution Control Board. Superintendent of Police (West) Kiran Kumar emphasized that only green crackers were permitted, and actions would be taken against anyone found using banned firecrackers during Diwali.
