Tripura election 2023: Manik Saha has been re-elected as the Chief Minister of Tripura. On Monday (6 March) in the meeting of the Legislature Party of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he was elected the leader of the Legislature Party. Saha’s name was proposed by Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik. Bhowmik’s name was also running in the Chief Minister’s race. This will be Manik Saha’s second consecutive term as CM. The BJP secured a clear majority by winning 32 seats in the 60-member assembly, while its ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), won one seat.
Voting for the state assembly elections was held on February 16 and the results were announced on Thursday (March 2). After the election results, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha submitted his government’s resignation to the Governor. After this, churning started in the BJP regarding the name of the Chief Minister of Tripura.
An important meeting was also held in Delhi regarding the name of the CM
On Sunday, a meeting of BJP President JP Nadda, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior leaders was also held at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. According to sources, the name of Union Minister Pratima Bhowmik was also discussed in this meeting, but the central leadership remained in favor of Saha. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Bhowmik has won easily from Dhanpur assembly seat.
PM including many ministers will attend the swearing-in
Party insiders say that Manik Saha has not been involved in controversies so far and he can play an important role in building cordial relations with the tribal areas. The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on March 8. To join it, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda will reach Agartala on Tuesday evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Many chief ministers of BJP-ruled states are also expected to attend the swearing-in.
