Turkey: The German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said that a powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck central Turkey early Monday. At least five people were killed in this incident.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred 26 km east of Nurdagi city in Gaziantep province at a depth of 17.9 km. Governor Erdinc Yilmaz also said that 34 buildings were destroyed in the province. The another earthquake of 6.7 magnitude struck at a depth of 9.9 kilometers after 11 minutes of the first quake.

In videos shared widely on social media, buildings were seen shaking as the earthquake jolted Turkey. While there was no official word on the extent of the damage and human toll, posts and videos on social media indicated that there had been many casualties.

According to the BNO News report, multiple buildings had collapsed due to the quake and many people were feared trapped in the wreckage. The tremors were reportedly felt as far away as Syria and Yemen.
