New Delhi. As Delhi high court on Tuesday granted bail to JNU students Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita and Jamia Millia Islamia student Asif Iqbal Tanha, who were arrested under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a case related to larger conspiracy in the north east Delhi riots in February last year, the twitteraties reacted to the development, claiming that the young activists were wrongly targeted. However, some also opposed thier bails.
For the unversed, the three accused were arrested in May last year in connection with the violence between citizenship law supporters and protesters that claimed at least 53 lives in national capital.
Again in 1 more disheartening, #DelhiHighCourt grants bail to Asif Iqbal Tanha, Devangana Kalita, Natasha Narwal in Delhi Riots case.
Laws needs to b more stringent that this type of ppl do not come on roads once put behind the bars#DelhiRiots #natashanarwal #DevanganaKalita pic.twitter.com/xKJOQD6PdL— Rajveer Yadav (@rajveeryadav00) June 15, 2021
Bail on ground of speedy trial does not exonerate the culprits from their offences. The way culprits like them and #taruntejpal are being granted relief by courts will only raise questions on the integrity of our Courts, in the eyes of citizens. #DelhiRiots #NatashaNarwal

Delhi HC: The intent & purport of Parliament in enacting UAPA, more specifically in amending it in 2004 & 2008 to bring terrorist activity within its scope was & could only have had been, to deal with matters of profound impact on ‘Defence of India’, nothing more & nothing less.
