New Delhi: Twitter has started subscription service from a rate of $ 8 per month for Blue Tick. Twitter has rolled out the $8 verification service for selective iOS users. Microblogging site Twitter has launched the subscription service in 5 countries at the rate of $ 8 per month, it will now have to pay the Blue Tick Accounts. Elon Musk has taken many big decisions since he acquired Twitter. One of these decisions was related to the blue ticks received on account verification.
Twitter for Apple iOS said that users who ‘create a new account’ will now be able to get a blue tick with their name as it used to be in the accounts of prominent personalities, companies and politicians. Twitter informed about the new app update on its microblogging site, “Starting today, we’re adding great new features to Twitter Blue, and have more on the way soon. Get Twitter Blue for $7.99/month if you sign up now”.
Twitter has rolled out ‘Twitter Blue’, a subscription service for $8 per month on iOS with the latest update. Twitter Blue with Verification is currently available on iOS in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The social media website added, “Blue checkmark: Power to the people. Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies, and politicians you already follow”.
According to reports, Twitter has said that some additional new features will be launched soon for those who will pay for Blue Tick. Under Twitter Blue subscription, users will now be able to post longer videos and audios. Twitter Blue subscribers will get to see half the ads as compared to normal users. In addition, Twitter Blue subscribers can also read paid articles for free. At the same time, users will be able to take advantage of features like the facility to edit tweets and downvote feature. Twitter has said that your account will get a blue checkmark, just like celebrities, companies and politicians you follow.
The change marks the end of Twitter’s 2009 verification system, which was introduced to verify the accounts of celebrities. Twitter now has about 423,000 verified accounts, many of them rank-and-file journalists from around the globe that the company verified regardless of how many followers they had.
Musk, who had earlier said that he wants to “verify all humans” on Twitter, has floated that public figures would be identified in ways other than the blue check. Currently, for instance, government officials are identified with text under names stating that they are posting from an official government account.
President Joe Biden’s @POTUS account, for example, says in gray letters it belongs to a “United States government official.”
The announcement comes a day after Twitter began laying off workers to cut costs and as more companies are pausing advertising on the platform as a cautious corporate world waits to see how it will operate under its new owner.
