Congress party’s official Twitter account locked

New Delhi: After former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, now the official Twitter account of the Congress party has been locked. Earlier, the accounts of top Congress leaders were also locked, including All India Congress Committee general secretary Ajay Maken, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, party whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore, Assam Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh and Mahila Congress President Sushmita Dev. Twitter accounts included.

Ruckus over Rahul Gandhi’s tweet

Rahul Gandhi had last week tweeted pictures with the family of a nine-year-old girl, a victim of the alleged rape and murder in Delhi Cantt. After which Twitter deleted the controversial tweet of Rahul Gandhi on the complaint of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). The commission had accused the Congress leader of violating the privacy of the minor victim.

Earlier on Wednesday, Twitter had told the Delhi High Court that Rahul Gandhi’s tweet on August 4 violated the company’s policies. He had tweeted his picture with the parents of the rape victim. Because of this his account was temporarily closed. Rahul Gandhi was criticized across the country for his controversial tweet.

Why were the accounts of Congress Party and other leaders locked?

Actually, Rahul Gandhi’s tweet was retweeted and shared by other Congress leaders. After this, Twitter took action on other leaders including the official account of the Congress party and locked their account.
