The Ahmedabad-based Oreva Group has come under scrutiny after the bridge fell just days after being reopened to the public. While overcrowding on the bridge was a contributing cause, it has since come to light that the repairs were not done properly. The prosecution testified in court on Tuesday that although the bridge’s floor had been restored, the cable had not. Therefore, the cable of the bridge was broken due to the pressure of the floor. The floor itself turned heavier after the repair. Apart from this, the heavy rush of people on the occasion of Chhath Puja was another reason behind the bridge collapse.

Oreva Group’s managing director, Jaysukh Patel, suddenly gave permission to open the bridge to the public on October 26, after the conclusion of the repair work. Oreva spent Rs 2 crore on the renovation work. During the process, the company had to rope in several experts as well. In fact, the bridge collapsed four days after it was built. So who is responsible for this huge tragedy? Decide, the ball is now in your court.

Overall, nine people have been detained regarding the tragedy: two managers of the Oreva group, two sub-contractors who had repaired the bridge, the security guards, and the ticket booking clerks. The managers and the sub-contractors have been sent to police custody, while the rest are in judicial custody.
