The Election Commission has allotted Uddhav the torch symbol as an election symbol. The Trishul and Mace symbol sent by the Uddhav faction has been banned by the Election Commission.

The rising sun is also not in the symbol list of the Election Commission. At the same time, the Shinde faction had also given three symbols of trishul, mace and rising sun as options, which have been rejected by the commission and asked the Shinde faction to again give new options for the symbol. Now the symbol of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) will be the torch for the Andheri East by-election. In Mumbai’s Andheri East elections, the Uddhav faction will now enter the election campaign with this new name and symbol.

The Sena versus Sena saga started in June when Mr Shinde led 48 MLAs in a BJP-backed coup against then Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, bringing down his coalition government. Mr Shinde then formed a new government with the BJP. The tussle now is for the party name, election symbol and the legacy of Balasaheb Thackeray, party founder and father of Uddhav Thackeray.
