Mumbai: Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray appears disappointed but ready to rebuild the party following the rebellion led by Eknath Shinde, which forced Thackeray to resign as Maharashtra Chief Minister.
He has been trying to set up a new team to strengthen the party from the grassroots level. Mr Thackeray has appointed more than 100 new office-bearers in Mumbai, Palghar, Yavatmal, and Amravati, among other districts, with the aim of renovating the Shiv Sena and making it a powerful force in Maharashtra again.
Thaceray has given prominent posts to fresh faces after the rebellion that occurred in the party last month.
He has appointed newcomers to the posts of Upa Vibhag Pramukh (deputy zonal head) and Shaka Pramukh (branch head) on a huge scale. On Sunday, the Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece, Saamna, announced the new appointments.
Sena functionaries said second-rung leaders have been given key responsibilities to make the organisation once again a prominent force in the state. Shiv Sena doesn’t follow other parties; it is first a sanghatana (organisation) and then a paksh (party”), said a functionary.
Grassroots workers are its real assets, who build around shakhas and their pramukhs. New appointments are taking place in phases so that there is no vacuum in the party. “
In Mumbai, new appointments were made in Magathane, Borivli, and Dahisar constituencies. MLC Sunil Shinde was named sampark pramukh (communications chief) of Shirdi constituency. In Amravati district, Sunil Kharate was named zilla pramukh (district chief) along with over a dozen new appointments. In Yavatmal district, new office-bearers were appointed across all constituencies. Sources said aides of Yavatmal MP Bhavana Gawli and MLA Sanjay Rathod, who have joined the Shinde camp, have been removed.
Sena functionary Dipali Sayed’s statement that Thackeray and Shinde will soon come on one platform, Sena MP Sanjay Raut hit back strongly that she is not a party “leader”. She is an actress and works for the party. Who has given her the power to make such a statement? She should avoid such statements, Raut said.
