UN to honor Indian female peacekeeper Major Radhika Sen, Secretary General Antonio praises

Indian female peacekeeper Major Radhika Sen, who served in the United Nations (UN) mission in Congo, will be honored with a military award. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres praised him and called him a true and ideal leader.

UN: Indian female peacekeeper Major Radhika Sen, who served in the United Nations (UN) mission in Congo, will be honored with a military award. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres praised him and called him a true and ideal leader.

Major Radhika Sen will be given the 2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award on the occasion of International United Nations Peacekeepers Day on May 30. UN Secretary General Guterres will honor him with this award.

Let us tell you that Major Sen was posted in the east of the Republic of Congo as the commander of the Indian Rapid Deployment Battalion from March 2023 to April 2024. She is originally from Himachal Pradesh. She was born in 1993 and joined the Indian Army eight years ago. Major Radhika Sen graduated in Biotech Engineer, only after that she decided to join the Indian Army.

She is the second Indian peacekeeper to receive the 2023 United Nations Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award after Major Suman Gawani. Major Gawani served in the United Nations (UN) mission and was honored with this award in 2019.

Guterres congratulated Major Sen for his service. He said that she (Major Radhika Sen) is a true and ideal leader. Their service is a contribution to the United Nations (UN) as a whole. Following the announcement of the award, Major Sen said: “This award is special to me as it recognizes the hard work of all peacekeepers working in the challenging environment of the Republic of Congo and making an outstanding contribution to bringing about positive change in society.” Let us tell you that at present India is one of the countries making the 11th largest contribution of women military peacekeepers to the UN.
