Uncovering the Operation of a Deceptive Medical Center in the Heart of Delhi

In a surprising revelation, Agarwal Medical Centre, located in Greater Kailash’s E block, stands accused of dangerously conducting surgeries, allegedly leading to at least 15 deaths. Despite its seemingly legitimate appearance with a sandstone facade and signs proclaiming it as “Super Specialty” and “Government Approved,” the reality within tells a different story.

Delving beyond the wooden doors, concealed within the structure adorned with air conditioning units, reveals a grim reality. The center, which housed only 10 beds, featured rusty stretchers, bloodstained patient gowns, and expired blood sample bottles that never reached a pathology lab.

The façade began to crumble on November 14 when Delhi Police, responding to mounting complaints, locked down the center and apprehended four individuals—Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, the proprietor with training in general medicine, his wife Pooja Agarwal, Mahender Singh, and Dr. Jaspreet Singh. Shockingly, investigations unearthed a pattern of alleged medical malpractice linked to at least 17 complaints, resulting in 15 fatalities.

The disturbing revelations point to a hospital that allegedly preyed on individuals from lower-middle-class backgrounds, enticing them with affordable prices while leveraging its South Delhi location for credibility. The combination of cheap services and a strategic location not only attracted the targeted patient demographic but also dissuaded complaints from more influential individuals who deemed the facility unsuitable.

Established in 2006, Agarwal Medical Centre allegedly conducted thousands of surgeries, facilitated by a network of middlemen who brought unsuspecting patients to the center, operated on by individuals posing as qualified medical professionals.

The proprietor, Dr. Neeraj Agarwal, a 47-year-old with an MBBS degree from the University College of Medical Sciences associated with Guru Teg Bahadur hospital, reportedly pursued an MD in general medicine from a government college. Formerly a resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital for three years, he left to establish Agarwal Medical Centre in 2006, claiming to still consult at Safdarjung hospital during police interrogations. Investigations continue to gather details surrounding his medical qualifications.

The unfolding scandal sheds light on a shocking deception that jeopardized the lives of unsuspecting patients and prompts a thorough examination of the regulatory measures in place within the medical community.
