Under Construction Tunnel Collapse in Uttarakhand: 40 Workers Feared Trapped, Ongoing Rescue Efforts

In a concerning development, a tunnel under construction in Uttarakhand has experienced a collapse, raising fears for the safety of approximately 40 workers believed to be trapped inside. The incident unfolded around 4 am, resulting in the collapse of a 150-meter segment of the four-and-a-half-kilometer-long tunnel. This tunnel is a crucial component of the Char Dham Road Project, designed to connect Silkyara to Dandalgaon, with the overarching goal of reducing the journey from Uttarkashi to Yamunotri Dham by 26 kilometers.

Upon receiving information about the tunnel collapse, the district administration acted swiftly, issuing a prompt alert to initiate emergency response measures. Uttarkashi Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi quickly mobilized and arrived at the site to assess the situation firsthand. Taking charge of the rescue operations, the State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) has been deployed alongside local police personnel to coordinate efforts in managing the aftermath of the incident.

The collaborative response involves a coordinated effort between local law enforcement and specialized disaster relief teams to ensure a comprehensive and effective approach to the rescue mission. Their combined expertise and resources are being utilized to navigate the challenges posed by the collapsed tunnel and to expedite the safe retrieval of the trapped workers.

The district administration, law enforcement, and disaster relief teams are working in tandem to mitigate the impact of the collapse and prioritize the safety and well-being of those affected. Regular updates and communication are maintained to keep the public informed about the progress of the rescue operations and any developments in the situation.

Preliminary reports indicate that, fortunately, no casualties have been reported at this time. However, the focus of the ongoing efforts is the clearance of nearly 200 meters of debris to gain access to the trapped workers. A narrow opening has been created to insert an oxygen pipe into the tunnel, providing essential assistance to those awaiting rescue.

The situation is being closely monitored, and the rescue operations are progressing with utmost diligence. The safety and well-being of the workers involved in the tunnel construction remain the top priority for authorities.
