In a significant move, India threw its support behind Palestine’s quest for full membership in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The decision was made during an emergency special session convened by the UNGA .

Unwavering Support from India

India’s affirmative vote on the draft resolution, which advocated for Palestine’s eligibility and right to full membership in the global body, reaffirmed the nation’s longstanding solidarity with the Palestinian people. The decision reflects India’s unwavering stance on promoting peace and justice in the Middle East region.

Arab Group Resolution Presented

The resolution, titled ‘Admission of New Members to the United Nations,’ was introduced by the Arab Group and championed by the United Arab Emirates, serving as the President of the General Assembly for the month of May. The proposal received overwhelming support from the international community .

Global Consensus Emerges

During the emergency session, attended by the 193-member UNGA, 143 votes were cast in favor of the resolution, with India among the nations supporting Palestine’s bid for full membership. Despite opposition from a minority of countries and abstentions from others, the resounding majority underscored the widespread consensus on the issue.
