UP: 14 people killed in last 24 hours as downpour continues

Lucknow: Due to monsoon rains in Uttar Pradesh, many rivers including Ganga and Yamuna are in spate, due to which the danger of flood has started looming in many districts. At least 14 people died in rain-related incidents in the state during the last 24 hours. According to the report of the Meteorological Center, Lucknow, the southwest monsoon is active in the entire state.

Lucknow: Due to monsoon rains in Uttar Pradesh, many rivers including Ganga and Yamuna are in spate, due to which the danger of flood has started looming in many districts. At least 14 people died in rain-related incidents in the state during the last 24 hours.

According to the report of the Meteorological Center, Lucknow, the southwest monsoon is active in the entire state. During this, there was widespread rainfall at many places. Heavy to very heavy rains also occurred at some places. During the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall of 21 cm was recorded in Sambhal.

Apart from this, 15 in Bijnor, 13 in Saharanpur, 13 in Jansath of Muzaffarnagar, 12 in Safipur of Unnao, 11-11 in Chandpur of Meerut and Bijnor, 10 in Nauganwa Sadat of Amroha, Sahawar of Kasganj, Najibabad and Nagina of Bijnor and Unnao. Nine-nine centimeters of rainfall was recorded in K Hasanganj, seven in Malihabad of Lucknow, six centimeters each in Ayodhya, Bhanpur (Basti), Atrauli (Aligarh) and Narora (Bulandshahr).

The Meteorological Department has predicted rain at many places in the state till July 18. According to the report received from the Relief Commissioner’s office, at least 12 people have died in rain-related incidents during the last 24 hours in the state. During this, four people died in Barabanki, three each in Siddharthnagar and Shravasti, one each in Saharanpur, Rae Bareli, Hardoi and Sultanpur.

According to the report, the population of about two lakh 30 thousand in five districts is affected by the floods in the state. A population of two lakh 27 thousand in 104 villages of Saharanpur is facing flood. Apart from this, 12 villages in Muzaffarnagar and six in Gautam Buddha Nagar are also affected by the flood.

Meanwhile, according to the report of the Central Water Commission, due to widespread rainfall in the catchment areas, the water level of many rivers including Ganga and Yamuna has increased. Ganga river has crossed the danger mark at Kachla bridge (Badaun). Apart from this, its water level has reached near the red mark in Narora and Fatehgarh.

As per reports, the Yamuna river is flowing above the danger mark at Mavi (Shamli) while its water level at Prayag Ghat (Mathura) has reached near the red mark. Apart from this, Sharda river is flowing near the danger mark at Palia Kalan and Sharda Nagar, Ghaghra river at Katarnia Ghat and Elgin Bridge.

State Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar said that in view of the rains, instructions have been given to organize relief chaupals in all the flood-prone villages in various districts. In these chaupals, along with the village head, regional village level meetings of all related departments including revenue, irrigation, police, health, animal husbandry, panchayati raj, child development and nutrition, education, public works department, agriculture, rural development, food and logistics department Employees and representatives will participate.

The relief commissioner said that the main objective of the chaupal is to reduce the damage caused by disasters, to protect the common people from the side effects of possible floods up to the village level, and to make people aware of such disasters occurring in the future. Kumar told that District Magistrate will personally participate in at least five Rahat Chaupals, Additional District Magistrate at least 10, Deputy District Magistrate at least 15 and Tehsildar at least 20 Rahat Chaupals organized in the districts.

According to the information received from the Relief Commissioner’s office, due to the release of water from Hathini Kund barrage, waterlogging has been reported in some areas of the affected district Gautam Budh Nagar and on the midnight of 12 and 13 July, at around 2 am, the team of SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) 45 people were evacuated to safe places. Revenue administration and SDRF team are present on the spot and relief work is going on.
