Meerut: In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a case of forcibly converting 400 people by giving greed has come to light. The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday registered a case in Meerut for alleged forced conversion following a complaint by a local BJP leader. In fact, nine people have been accused of forcing them to convert to Christianity in exchange for helping people in lockdown during Covid. The police complaint filed by one of the slum dwellers states that the accused encouraged church visits and forced the slum dwellers to destroy the idols of Hindu deities.

During the Covid lockdown, slum dwellers could not move out and struggled to run their homes. The complainant told the police that people living in buildings in the area offered him food and money for household expenses.

However, those who had helped began to tell him that there was only one God – Jesus Christ – and asked him to go to church and pray to him. The report said that the complainants were asked to stop Hindu worship. Pray to God and only Christ.

The complainant alleged, “They even forced us to change our name in our Aadhaar card. When we were celebrating Diwali, these people barged into our houses and tore pictures of Hindu deities and said that we should pray to Christ now that we have been converted.” The complaint further states that they brought knives and rods, and threatened to kill us if we approached the authorities.

Claiming that they have been fraudulently converted to Christianity, the complaint asserts that all are “Sanatan Dharmhi (Hindu)” and urged the police to take appropriate legal action.
