UP cabinet approves establishment of police commissionerates in Agra, Ghaziabad, and Prayagraj

The implementation of the police commissionerate system in the cities of Prayagraj, Agra, and Ghaziabad received approval from the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has been trying to make the state crime-free and create a peaceful atmosphere. Therefore, the state government took a decision to make the state police more powerful so that the law-and-order situation would remain under control. Three new police commissionerates will come into force soon.

The implementation of the police commissionerate system in the cities of Prayagraj, Agra, and Ghaziabad received approval from the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday. The decision will make it possible for the appointment of a police commissioner in each of the three cities.

Prior to that, it was put into effect in March 2021 in Kanpur Nagar and Varanasi, and in 2020 in Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar, where Noida is located. Sujeet Pandy in Lucknow and Alok Singh in Noida were appointed as commissioners in their respective cities.

Aseem Arun in Kanpur and Satish Ganesh in Varanasi were named police commissioners in the second phase on March 26, 2021.

The decision was made in order to improve policing, preserve peace and order, and take into account the growing population and significance of these areas. Arvind Sharma, the minister of urban development, said

The state will now have a commissionerate system of policing in seven districts out of the total 75 districts.
