UP man poses as sub inspector to collect dowry at his own wedding, arrested in Kushinagar

Kushinagar: In a shocking case from Kushinagar, a man’s ploy to impersonate a police sub-inspector to collect dowry at his own wedding was exposed, leading to his arrest and a spotlight on the persistent challenges of dowry and identity fraud within matrimonial practices.

The incident came to light during the wedding ceremony when an accidental push exposed the groom, who had introduced himself as a sub-inspector Aryan while wearing a wig. This caused suspicion among the guests and the bride’s family and resulted in an investigation. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the man was actually Tabrez and not the government official he claimed to be.

His real identity was confirmed by his Aadhaar card, which is an important part of identity in India. Kushinagar police was immediately informed, which led to the arrest of Tabrez and he was subsequently sent to judicial custody.

According to the police, Tabrez committed fraud for a long time, hiding his religious identity and posing as a sub-inspector to marry the woman under false pretenses. The motive behind this widespread deception was to obtain hefty dowry, a practice that is illegal and socially condemned in India, yet continues in various forms.

Kasya police circle officer, Kundan Singh, said that while Tabrez has been arrested, his associates, including his brother Javed and another man named Sagir Ali, are still at large.

It also highlights the significant issue of identity fraud and the need for more stringent measures to verify the background of individuals in marital relationships. As the investigation continues, the case serves as a reminder of the complexities associated with marriage, dowry and identity in contemporary society, prompting consideration of the values and practices that perpetuate such deception.
