UP: Part of under-construction bridge collapses in Bulandshahr, no casualties reported

Uttar Pradesh: Official said that two beams of an under-construction bridge on the river Ganga collapsed in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. The purpose of this bridge is to establish a link between Bulandshahr and the Amroha district, traversing the River Ganga.

Official added that no casualties were reported in the incident. District Magistrate (DM) CP Singh said the beams collapsed due to a storm.

The bridge was being built from Gajraula village in Bulandshahr to Virampur village in Amroha at a cost of Rs 83 crore. There have been allegations of using substandard material in the construction of the bridge since the beginning. Even after repeated complaints from the people, the officials did not show seriousness.

The construction was being done under the supervision of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Setu Nigam. The DM refuted allegations over the usage of low-quality construction materials for the bridge.

In the year 2021, the construction work of a 1062.65 meter long bridge on the Ganga river between Madaiya Mali and Birampur was started to connect Bulandshahr and Amroha.
