Lucknow: Even though Samajwadi Party lost to BJP in UP polls 2022 yet it played well then last assembly polls and captured 111 seats individually against BJP’s 255 seats. After this little victory, on Saturday, the National President of the Progressive Samajwadi Party and MLA from Jaswant Nagar Shivpal Singh Yadav met Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav where they discussed election results in an hour long meet.
It is believed that Shivpal Singh Yadav can be given the responsibility of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. However, the Samajwadi Party has not yet officially confirmed it.
SP’s national spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said that a meeting of MLAs has been called on March 21. It is possible that there will be some discussion on this issue.
Notably BJP, with its allies, has won 273 seats, whereas Samajwadi Party won 111 seats while its allies including Rashtriya Lok Dal won 14. BSP supremo Mayawati, the four-time CM of UP, despite getting 12% vote share in 2022, got just one seat. Congress also performed poorly and got down to two seats from seven.
March 10, the day of voting results turned out to be a day of big celebration for BJP, as the party scripted historic victories in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. While, Arvind Keriwal’s AAP swept Punjab polls with 90 seats, overthrowing ruling Congress from the state.
