Lucknow: Voting for the fourth phase of the elections in Uttar Pradesh (UP) is taking place on February 23, where 59 assembly constituencies from nine districts are going to the polls. Ahead of the election, campaigning for the fourth phase came to an end on February 21, 48 hours ahead of the big day.
In the fourth phase of UP Election 2022, 624 candidates are in the fray, of which maximum of 15 candidates are vying for the Sawayajpur assembly seat, while a minimum of six candidates are contesting from Palia Kalan and Sevata assembly seats.
Among the prominent candidates in this phase are Uttar Pradesh Law Minister Brijesh Pathak, SP’s national spokesperson Anurag Bhadauria, former SP minister Abhishek Mishra, former Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly deputy speaker Nitin Agarwal and Aditi Singh.

Voting will be held at 13,813 polling stations and 24,580 polling booths in 208 police station areas. According to the Election Commission, 2.3 crore people, including 1.14 crore men and 99.3 lakh women, are eligible to vote, for which 24,643 polling booths and 13,817 poling centres have been set up in this phase. A total of 137 ‘pink booths’ have been made to specially motivate women for voting. At these pink booths, 36 women inspectors and sub-inspectors, and 277 women constables and chief constables have been deployed.
Three assembly constituencies — Hussainganj, Bindki and Fatehpur — have been kept in the ‘sensitive’ category. A total of 3,393 polling booths are being considered as ‘critical’.
Security has been tightened in Lakhimpur Kheri for the fourth phase of polling. “104 companies of CAPF, 10,000 Civil Police personnel and Home Guards have been deployed on the Nepal Border. The borders have been sealed,” Sanjeev Suman, Superintendent of Police of Kheri said.
As per the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a total of 27% of candidates contesting in the fourth phase of UP assembly elections are facing criminal cases, while 37 % have declared assets valued at more than Rs 1 crore.
Among the major parties, 31 out of 58 candidates from Congress, 26 out of 59 candidates from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), 30 out of 57 candidates from Samajwadi Party (SP), 23 out of 57 candidates from BJP, and 11 out of 45 candidates from AAP have declared criminal cases against them. Whereas, the average of assets per candidate contesting in the UP Assembly Elections 2022 Phase 4 is Rs 2.46 crore.
Just like the previous phases, the polling will begin at 7 am and continue till 6 pm.
