UP road mishap: 26 Devotees dead after tractor-trolley falls into pond in Kanpur’s Ghatampur area

A major accident has happened in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh where 26 devotees dead after tractor-trolley falls into pond in Kanpur. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

New Delhi: Another road mishap came to fore from Kanpur where several killed after tractor-trolley overturns. At least 26 people died in a major accident in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. A tractor-trolley full of devotees fell into the pond. It is being told that most of the dead are women and children. Relief and rescue work is going on at the spot. Search is on for missing people. There were about 50 people in the trolley. Those injured in the accident have been admitted to the hospital.

Devotees, residents of Kortha village of Sadh police station area, went to Chandrika Devi temple in Fatehpur in a tractor-trolley. While returning after darshan, the trolley overturned in the roadside pond between Sadh and Gambhirpur village.

President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the incident.

It is written on the Twitter handle of Rashtrapati Bhavan, ‘Very anguished by the news of the death of many people in a road accident in Kanpur. My deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this accident. I wish the injured people a speedy recovery.

The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to carry out relief and rescue work promptly. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself is monitoring the relief and rescue work. Two ministers Rakesh Sachan and Ajit Pal have been sent immediately on behalf of the Chief Minister to the accident site. Also, instructions have been issued to use the tractor trolley only for agricultural work.

Yogi has directed to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.

PM Modi tweeted, ‘Very saddened by the tractor trolley accident in Kanpur. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The local administration is providing all possible help to the affected.

Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed grief over this incident.

Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati has also expressed grief.
