A case was registered against Azam Khan in Rampur in April 2019 for making inflammatory remarks. The Rampur court convicted the senior Samajwadi Party leader. He was then sentenced to three years in jail and a fine of Rs 2,000.
Azam Khan’s assembly membership was also lost after the decision of the MP-MLA court of Rampur. However, later Azam Khan was relieved and the lower court declared him innocent.
This decision of the lower court was challenged and the decision has come on 15 July 2023. The court has again convicted Azam Khan and announced a sentence of 2 years.
In 2019, SP leader Azam Khan gave controversial statement. He had made provocative remarks about Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and government officials of Rampur. At that time Azam Khan was addressing a gathering. Azam’s speech was deemed hate speech against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a police complaint was given.
By the way, other cases are registered against SP leader Azam Khan. Due to serious allegations, he has also gone to jail. Azam Khan was also convicted in the 2008 Chhajlat case some time back. Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam were sentenced to 2-2 years by the MP MLA Court of Rampur.
