Meerut, UP: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening when a woman aged 40 and her two daughters were lost their lives after being crushed by a Vande Bharat Express train in UP’s Meerut. According to police, the train ran over the victims at a manned level crossing in Meerut district while they were crossing it.

According to state Superintendent of Police (city) Piyush Kumar, the accident occurred as the gates at the Kasampur level crossing were closed. The bodies have been taken for post-mortem examination.

Narrating the sequence of events, Superintendent of Police (city) Piyush Kumar Singh said that Naresh, a resident of Kankarkhera, was pulling a hand-driven cart known as a ‘rehra’, while his wife Mona (40) and their daughters Manisha (14) and Charu (7) were seated at the back side of the ‘rehra’.

At the Kasampur manned railway crossing, Naresh moved under the railway gate, and was crossing the railway track, when the semi-high speed train hit the rear of the cart, running over Mona, and her two daughters, who died on the spot.
