The official said that the assailant barged into the university building and abused the teacher. The accused of the attack has been arrested. Meanwhile, Kevin Guskiewicz, Chancellor of the University of North Carolina, said the shooting occurred at Caudill Laboratories. Describing the death of the teacher as devastating, he said that we take the security of our campus for granted.
Chancellor Kevin apologized to students who felt uncertain about their safety after the shooting. UNC Police Chief Brian James said after the shooting that a suspect had been arrested about an hour and a half after the shooting was reported.
He said the entire campus was sealed after the firing incident. During this time people living in hostel rooms, offices and classrooms were asked to stay in the same room.He said 911 was called for shots fired, two minutes after which the emergency siren sounded. James said that there is no information about the casualty of any other person in this firing so far.
