New Delhi: Three members of a family were killed over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district while they were sleeping outside their hut on Friday morning. After the incident, relatives of the victims set fire to the houses of the alleged accused, who are on the run.

Receiving the information, Cops and fire officials reached the site and started extinguishing the fires. But the villagers didn’t let them take possession of the bodies, said police. The incident took place in Mohideenpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sandeepan Ghat police station.

A police officer said that the victims were identified as Horilal, his daughter and son-in-law Shivsaran. They were killed using sharp weapons. The accused, who belong to the Other Backward Classes category, are Hori Lal’s neighbours, the police said. Kaushambi Superintendent of Police Brijesh Srivastava said the situation is now under control and four suspects are absconding.

Officials said thaf Shocked over the triple murder, the villagers set several houses and shops on fire. He added as a precautionary measure, heavy police presence has been deployed at the village to avoid any untoward incident.

Superintendent of Police Brijesh Srivastava and officials from several police stations rushed to the spot, leading to a clash with angry villagers, who refused to hand over the bodies until the killers were arrested.

Mr. Srivastava said, Horilal was having a land dispute with another person from the same village. He said the police were trying to bring the situation under control and send the bodies to the mortuary.
