Uttar Pradesh: 7 killed including 2 children in lightning strikes

Lucknow: Seven people were killed including two children in separate incidents of lightning in Budaun, Etah and Rae Bareli districts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, officials said.Dataganj sub-divisional magistrate Dharmendra Kumar Singh said, "Farmers Bablu (30) and Varjeet Yadav (32) were returning home from Ushait market on a motorcycle when lightning struck them with heavy rain, killing both of them on the spot."

Lucknow: Seven people were killed including two children in separate incidents of lightning in Budaun, Etah and Rae Bareli districts of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, officials said.

Dataganj sub-divisional magistrate Dharmendra Kumar Singh said, “Farmers Bablu (30) and Varjeet Yadav (32) were returning home from Ushait market on a motorcycle when lightning struck them with heavy rain, killing both of them on the spot.”

In another incident of lightning in Ushait town, Anshika (11) died when she was returning home from school. All three bodies have been sent for post-mortem, Mr Singh said, adding a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each will be given to the families of the victims.

In Rae Bareli, three people were killed and three others were seriously injured in incidents of lightning in Deeh, Bhadokhar and Mill area police station areas. According to the police, Mohit Pal (14) was grazing cattle in the field near Gendalal village of Dih police station area, when lightning struck and he died on the spot. Jamuna Prasad (38) was working in the field in Purva village under Mill area police station area when he was struck by lightning.

In one such incident, Ramakanti (38) died due to lightning in Sarai Damo village under Bhadokhar police station area of ​​Rae Bareilly. Three other people suffered serious burn injuries due to lightning in the district and have been admitted to the hospital, police said.

“At Khanjarpur village in Etah, Dharmendra (32) died after being struck by lightning when he had gone out to fetch fodder for his cattle amid heavy rains,” Jaithra station in-charge Khushiram said. Said that the body has been sent for postmortem.
