LUCKNOW: In a surprise move, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday, May 11, removed director general of police (DGP) Mukul Goel from his post. The state government said today, declaring in a statement that was “not taking interest in work” and was “disobeying orders”.
Goel has been appointed the Director General (DG) of the civil defence department.
This is the first high-profile transfer in the state since Yogi Adityanath assumed power for the second straight term in March this year.
Goel, a 1987-batch IPS officer, was appointed the Uttar Pradesh director general of police (DGP) in June last year.
He had earlier worked as SP/SSP in Almora, Jalaun, Mainpuri, Hathras, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Saharanpur and Meerut districts.
He was also posted in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the National Disaster Response Force.
