Uttar Pradesh CM Initiates Action Against Officials for Revenue Case Negligence

In a recent development, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a strong stance against administrative negligence, seeking explanations from seven Divisional Commissioners (DCs) and seven District Magistrates (DMs) for irregularities in handling revenue cases. This move comes after a review meeting on Tuesday revealed significant shortcomings in the resolution of pending revenue disputes across the state.

During the September review meeting, CM Adityanath had initiated a special 60-day campaign to expedite the resolution of pending revenue disputes in various courts. The progress of this campaign is being closely monitored, with weekly administrative reviews.

The negligence of seven DCs, including those from Varanasi, Saharanpur, Azamgarh, Basti, Chitrakoot Dham, Ayodhya, and Aligarh, along with seven DMs from Bagpat, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, and Amroha, was highlighted during the recent review. The state government is contemplating strict action against officers who fail to provide satisfactory responses to the notices issued.

Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Sudhir Garg reported that officers were found negligent in resolving pending cases in five divisions. For instance, in Varanasi division, only 82 out of 440 pending revenue cases were disposed, reflecting similar inadequacies in Saharanpur, Azamgarh, Aligarh, and Basti divisions.

The scrutiny also revealed shortcomings in resolving new cases in Chitrakoot Dham, Azamgarh, Ayodhya, Saharanpur, and Aligarh divisions. Notices for negligence in resolving revenue cases have been served to the concerned DMs.

This recent action follows a previous review meeting on October 31, where the state government sought explanations from 12 DMs and took actions against negligent sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) and land consolidation officers in various districts. The government emphasizes the timely and quality resolution of pending revenue disputes, aligning with established standards and targets. Officers failing to meet these standards may face severe consequences as the government prioritizes effective governance and accountability.
