The Uttar Pradesh government is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to transform the 296 km long Bundelkhand Expressway into the state’s inaugural solar expressway. Spanning 1700 hectares, the solar plants planned along this expressway are anticipated to generate an impressive 550 MW of solar power.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), spearheading the project, aims to power approximately one lakh households along the expressway. The estimated lifespan of this ambitious solar venture is set at 25 years.
Having completed the Due Diligence Study and successfully concluded the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage in August 2023, the state government is progressing steadily. Notably, eight leading solar power developers, including Tusco Ltd, Torrent Power Ltd, Somaya Solar Solutions Pvt Ltd, 3R Management Ltd, Avaada Energy Ltd, Atria Brindavan Power Ltd, Erisha E Mobility, and Mahapreit, have presented their proposals for the project.
The strategic placement of solar panels within the 15 to 20 meters wide vacant strip between the main carriageway and service lane of the Bundelkhand Expressway is set to redefine the region’s energy landscape. This innovative approach involves the installation of solar panels to generate electricity while maintaining a clear demarcation between agricultural land and the expressway through appropriate fencing.
The ambitious solar expressway project not only aligns with sustainable energy goals but also reflects Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to embracing innovative solutions for powering the state’s future.
