Uttarakhand: 10 Mountaineers Killed in Uttarakhand Avalanche, search continues for others

Uttarakhand: In Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, 29 climbers were trapped due to a snow storm on the top of Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain, which is more than 5000 feet high, out of which 8 have been rescued. At the same time, according to the report, 10 climbers have died so far. SDRF team has reached the base camp of Nim. They will be taken to the accident site with the help of Air Force helicopter.

Airforce helicopters have also reached Uttarkashi and are doing recce of the area. Amit Bist, principal of the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, confirmed the death of these 10 climbers. That is, 11 are still being searched. Let us tell you, 29 trainees of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering were trapped in a snow storm on Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak. After getting the information, the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel along with the team of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering got involved in the rescue operation.

Indian Air Force official said that two Cheetah helicopters have been deployed by the army for rescue and relief work. The fleet of all other helicopters has been kept on standby for any other requirement. It is being told that all the mountaineers had set out on an expedition in Uttarkashi on 23 September.

At the same time, Disaster Management Officer Devendra Patwal said that there were a total of 175 people including the trainer and trainee in the training, in which 29 people were hit by the snow. 8 people have been rescued. Helicopter help is being taken for rescue. Regarding this accident, the Nehru Mountaineering Institute told that the children of Basic and Advanced Course running near Bhukki in Uttarkashi reached Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak this morning for mountaineering training, whose height is about 5,006 meters. During this, many trainees got stuck there due to a sudden snow storm.

Regarding this incident, the Chief Minister of the state Pushkar Singh Dhami tweeted, “District Administration, NDRF, SDRF, along with the team of NIM to rescue the trainees trapped in the avalanche at Draupadi’s Danda-2 mountain peak at the earliest. Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the Army and ITBP personnel. The Chief Minister’s Office said he has spoken to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and sought the army’s help. “The centre has assured every help,” it said.
