Dehradun: On Sunday, police said that the body of a woman was found hanging from the ceiling of a room in a resort in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. They further said that after the preliminary investigation, it is a case of suicide.
However, the woman’s family claimed that she was murdered and her body was later hanged from the ceiling to make it look like a suicide. Police said that the 18-year-old woman worked at a resort in Khalfoun village and her body was found on December 1.
Police said that according to initial investigation it seems to be a case of suicide. The woman’s family members created a ruckus at Uttarkashi District Hospital on Saturday, accusing the resort owner and his cook of murder.
They claimed that her body was found hanging from the ceiling and her feet were touching the floor. Her family refused to take the body for cremation, accusing the police of trying to protect the murderers. Senior sub-inspector (SSI) Rajesh Kumar said the investigation is ongoing.
Based on the complaint of the woman’s father, a case has been registered against the resort owner and his cook under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. Police said that the autopsy report does not show any crime but on the demand of the villagers, swabs of the woman’s viscera and vagina have been sent for forensic examination.
