Dehradun: On Monday, The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority has directed to temporarily stop the ongoing Char Dham Yatra till Tuesday as heavy rains continue to lash the north eastern state, officials said. He said that this decision has been taken in view of ensuring the safety of the pilgrims.

He said that this decision has been taken in view of ensuring the safety of the pilgrims.
In an order issued on Monday, the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority said, “The Char Dham Yatra on August 14 and 15 has been temporarily suspended following disruption of traffic movement due to landslides following heavy rains in Uttarakhand.” Dhami held a high-level meeting to review the rain situation in the state and directed the officials to remain alert round the clock.
Due to the rains, most of the rivers are in spate and Ganga is flowing above the danger mark in Tehri, Haridwar and Rishikesh.The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for rain for Monday in six districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat and issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain in Haridwar.
The Char Dham Yatra includes four holy shrines: Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri were opened for devotees on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya on 22 April. The portals of Kedarnath Dham were opened on 25 April, while Badrinath Dham was opened for pilgrims on 27 April.
