Uttarakhand: Curfew in many villages, schools to remain closed after tiger kills two

After the death of an old man in a tiger attack in Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot tehsils two days ago, the Forest Department has put up a cage in the village to catch the attacking Guldar. A drone was flown in the surrounding area on Sunday, in which the movement of a tiger has also been captured on camera in Padiyarpani village.

Uttarakhand/Pauri: Pauri Garhwal district administration has imposed curfew from 7 pm to 6 am in dozens of villages of Rikhanikhal and Dhumakot tehsils in view of tiger terror in the district. Apart from this, schools and Anganwadi centers of both these tehsils will remain closed on April 17 and 18. DM Pauri Ashish Chauhan has issued guidelines in this regard.

After the death of an old man who was attacked by a tiger in Dalla village of Meldhar village panchayat of Rikhanikhal block two days back, the forest department has installed a cage in the village to catch the attacking Guldar. A drone was flown in the surrounding area on Sunday, in which the movement of a tiger has also been captured on camera in Padiyarpani village.

Khushendra Singh, head of Gram Panchayat Meldhar, said that after the death of the old man in the tiger attack, there is panic in the surrounding villages. He told that people are getting imprisoned in their homes as soon as the evening sets in. Although the Forest Department personnel are continuously patrolling with guns.

He said that 10 street lights have been given by the district administration to make arrangements for lighting in the roads of the affected villages. Which has reached Jui village on Sunday. Efforts are being made to reach the street lights to the affected villages.

Caged in the village
On the other hand, Garhwal Forest Division’s DFO Swapnil Anirudh told that a cage has been installed in the village to catch the attacking tiger. On Sunday, a drone was flown in the area to keep an eye on the movement of tigers, in which the movement of a tiger has also been seen in Padiyar Pani village.

Schools to open on Monday, parents worried about safety of wards

The schools were closed on Saturday following the order of the district administration, but now the primary schools in the area are to open from Monday. In such a situation, there is concern among the parents about their wards. Village head Khushendra Singh told that the attacking tiger has not been caught yet and the movement of the tiger continues around the village.

In the meantime, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Lansdowne Dalip Rawat has urged Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to ensure the security of the residents of the area.
