Uttarakhand: Over 500 houses develop cracks due to land sinking in Joshimath

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon visit Joshimath to take stock of the situation and initiate necessary action.

Khatima (Uttarakhand): Cracks have appeared in 561 houses due to land subsidence in Joshimath, Uttarakhand. The District Disaster Management Department said that a total of 66 families have fled from Joshimath so far after cracks appeared in their houses.

Joshimath Municipal President Shailendra Pawar said, “Now the process of increasing cracks has started in Sinhadhar and Marwari. Cracks are continuously coming in Badrinath NH near Sinhadhar Jain Mohalla and JP Company Gate near Forest Department’s check post in Marwari.” This rift is increasing every hour which is worrying.”

Joshimath City Board Chairman said that cracks have been reported in nine Marwari houses and cracks have started appearing in most of the public roads of the ward. The District Disaster Management Department said that there have been cases of water seeping from the ground in JP Colony of Marwadi Ward of Joshimath.

Shailendra Panwar said, “Cracks are also increasing on all the main roads of Sunil Ward, due to which people are having a lot of trouble walking.”

After continuous land subsidence in Joshimath, District Magistrate Chamoli has posted Joint Magistrate Deepak Saini in Joshimath.

Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said in the wake of reports of land subsidence in Joshimath and cracks in several houses in the town, necessary action would be taken to save the people of the district.

The town is facing severe challenges amid the winter months as the risk of collapsing houses is getting deeper day by day. As per information, the District Magistrate (DM) of Chamoli visited the area but no conclusion has been inferred so far.

Speaking to sources, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “I will visit Joshimath in the coming days and take steps to handle the situation. All reports will be monitored and all necessary steps will be taken. I have decided to monitor the situation.” Have spoken to Municipal Corporation President Shailendra Pawar.”
