Veteran Bengali silver screen actor Pradip Mukherjee passed away on Monday. He was 76 years old.

New Delhi: Veteran Bengali silver screen actor Pradip Mukherjee passed away on Monday. He was 76 years old. The actor rose to fame after his iconic role of Somnath in Satyajit Ray’s ‘Jana Aranya’ and gained a distinct identity. His fans are in shock as soon as this news comes to the fore.

Pradip Mukherjee also received critical acclaim for his role of Dr. Maiti in ‘Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh’ starring Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal. Mukherjee was admitted to the hospital on 22 August after a lung infection. His condition started deteriorating from Sunday and he had to be given ventilator support.

He was infected with Covid-19 twice in the last two years. The actor is survived by wife, son and daughter. Let us tell you that Mukherjee was born on 11 August 1946 and after graduating from City College, Kolkata, he also obtained a law degree. He was attracted towards acting since his college days.

Apart from taking drama lessons, Pradip Mukherjee was also actively associated with several theater academies. He started his acting career on stage, where he was noticed by Satyajit Ray. Ray offered him the role of Somnath in his iconic film ‘Jana Aranya’.
