New Delhi: Prominent Congress party leader Digvijaya Singh is now running for the Congress presidential post. According to the reports, Digvijaya Singh will submit his nomination on September 30 after arriving back in Delhi tonight.
Digvijaya Singh, KC Venugopal, and Mallikarjun Kharge were the front-runners when Ashok Gehlot’s bid for the Congress president position was called into question as a result of the uprising in the Rajasthan Congress.
Shashi Tharoor, another Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram, is also in the race for the AICC presidential election on October 17.
Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has stuck to his decision not to run for Congress president. He resigned as party leader after the Congress suffered its second consecutive loss in the 2019 parliamentary elections,
Sonia Gandhi, who took charge of the party again as an interim president, had to resign in August 2020 after an open revolt took place by a section of leaders, referred to as G-23, but the CWC had urged her to continue.
