Mumbai: On Friday morning, Bollywood filmmaker Rajkumar Kohli, known for movies like Nagin and Jaani Dushman, died in Mumbai at the age of 93 years old. The filmmaker had a heart attack on Friday morning at 8 and passed away soon after.

According to information, his funeral will be held in the evening. Rajkumar reportedly went to take a shower when the tragedy happened. When he didn’t step out after a long time, his actor son Armaan Kohli broke the door and took him to the hospital. Rajkumar Kohli was born in 1930 and began his journey in films in the 1960s with the 1963 release Sapni and directing Punjabi film Dulla Bhatti in 1966.

Kohli was also instrumental in launching his song into the movies, he was last seen in Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. He then had moderate successes in Hindi cinema such as Lootera (1970) and Kahaani Hum Sab Ki (1973). But he got success with the 1976 multi-starrer superhit Naagin. Kohli’s next career was not as successful, even though he gave some hits like Naukar Biwi Ka (1983) and Inteqam (1988). He moved away from filmmaking in the 90s and directed only one film after the turn of the century.

His last release – Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani – is reminiscent of his 70s hits with big stars and modern VFX. However, its failure meant that Kohli left the industry. Kohli was married to Punjabi film star Nishi, with whom he worked in the 1963 Punjabi film Pind Di Kudi. Kohli has two sons – Gogi and Armaan. He directed in his last film – Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani – released in 2002.
