Bengaluru: Indian team head coach Rahul Dravid was given a grand welcome on Tuesday when he reached Bengaluru Cricket Academy. Local young players gave him a guard of honor in Dravid’s honour. Recently, under the leadership of Dravid, the Indian team won the T20 World Cup title. With this, the long wait of 11 years to win the ICC trophy ended. However, Dravid’s tenure as head coach has ended with the final match of the T20 World Cup.

When Dravid reached Bengaluru Cricket Academy, the budding players raised their bats in honor of Dravid. The coaching staff of the academy welcomed Dravid with applause. Dravid also greeted the people present there and laughed and shook hands with everyone. Dravid made his debut for India in 1996 and continued representing the country until 2012. Like everyone else, Dravid’s dream was to become world champion. However, he was successful in fulfilling this dream as a coach.

Under the captaincy of Dravid, the Indian team went to participate in the ODI World Cup in West Indies in 2007, but the team’s performance was very poor and India’s journey stopped in the group stage itself. Dravid became the coach of the Indian team in 2021 and during his tenure as coach, the team reached the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup, the final of the 2023 World Test Championship, and the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Although the Indian team could not get success then, but Dravid was finally successful in making the team world champion in the last tournament of his tenure. It was under the leadership of Dravid that the team won the Asia Cup title by defeating Sri Lanka last year. In a video released by the local cricket academy in Bengaluru, Dravid expressed his happiness at being back on the field and grooming emerging talents.
