Mumbai: Vikram Gokhale, 77, breathed his last on Saturday in Pune. He and Amitabh Bachchan had bonded for more than five decades. Both struggled in the industry at the same time during their initial days in Bollywood. During an interview, Gokhale revealed that he had seen Big B’s struggle, so he watches his movie once a week.
Amitabh had helped him in the 1970s by providing him with accommodation in Bombay (present-day Mumbai). Vikram got his big break in Bollywood in 1971 with the film ‘Parvana’, Amitabh was also featured in that film.
Talking about Amitabh, Vikram said in his 2020 interview that “I believe people only see his success rate, but I know when he was struggling. He used to knock on the door of every studio; I witnessed it closely. Several people in the film industry who don’t know the ABCs of acting are calling themselves actors. Acting was in Gokhale’s blood. Vikram Gokhale had worked extensively in Hindi and Marathi films, television, and theater. He was the son of Chandrakant Gokhale, a Marathi theatre and film performer, while his great-grandmother, Durgabai Kamat, had the distinction of being the first female actor on the Indian screen. His grandmother, Kamlabai Gokhale, performed as the first female child actor in the Indian film industry.
Vikram Gokhale’s last rites will take place at 6 pm at Vaikunth Samshan Bhumi in Pune.
