Violent clash in Ayodhya: SP-BJP supporters clash days ahead of voting in third phase

Ayodhya: As third phase of polling is due to be held in Uttar Pradesh, the ram nagari Ayodhya is witnessing the effect of political violence under as supporters of the Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday evening clashed while carrying out poll campaigning near Maharajganj Police Station area here.

Just days before the elections in Ayodhya, the rival party candidates are coming forward to oppose each other. On Friday night, something similar happened when two groups came face-to-face near Nava Kabir Pur village, some distance away from Maharajganj police station, late last night.

Soon there was a fierce dispute between them. During this, several rounds of aerial firing and stone pelting also took place on both the sides, damaging vehicles of both the sides. However, there was no causality reported during this ruckus, though, both the parties filed complaint against each-other in the police station. After this, the supporters of both the sides gathered there and the dispute escalated further. The police used force to drive away the people gathered there and at the same time at around four o’clock in the morning, the officials took 5 people including SP candidate, Abhay Singh, into police custody. They are accused of the stone pelting and firing in the police station.

Ayodhya Senior Superintendent of Police, Shailesh Pandey on Friday told media, “During the campaigning, supporters of both the candidates came face to face near Kabirpur intersection of Maharajganj PS area. Both sides have accused each other of stone-pelting and firing”.

“One or two people have received minor injuries. We are probing the matter and strict action will be taken against the culprits. Law and order situation is under control,” Pandey added.

Controversy between supporters of SP and BJP

A tussle between the two rivals has been going on for a long time between the supporters of SP candidate of Abhay Singh and BJP candidate Aarti Tiwari. The supporters of both the sides once again came face-to-face on Friday night near Nava Kabir Pur village at around 8 PM. Witnesses say during this time several round of aerial firing also took place on both the sides, however, there were no casualties reported. Pelting also took place on both the sides in which many vehicles were damaged. After the incident, both the party members reached police station amid a lot of tension and here too an attempt was made to sabotage the police station.

SP candidate Abhay Singh alleged that he was returning after campaigning when supporters of BJP candidate Aarti Tiwari came in front of him and started abusing him. During this bullets were fired at him.

On the other hand, BJP candidate supporter Vikas Singh says that Abhay Singh himself opened fire on him, after which his man attacked Abhay’s vehicles.
